Intensive Property of Thermodynamics System:

The Properties of system which are independent of mass. example: pressure, temperature,density,velocity,viscosity etc

All specific properties are intensive property. example: specific volume, specific internal energy, specific entropy etc.

Extensive Property of Thermodynamics System:

he Properties of system which are dependent of mass is called extensive properties. example, Enthalpy, energy, volume, entropy etc.

Reversible and Irreversible Process

Reversible Process:

A process is said to be a reversible process if it can be reverse in direction following the same path as that of the forward process without causing any change in system as well as surrounding.

Irreversible process

A process is said to be a irreversible process if it can not reverse in direction following the same path as that of the forward process.

important point:

  • quasi static compression or expansion of a gas is a reversible process.
  • Ideal flow of a fluid is a reversible process.
